About

My name is Samuel James Martinez and I am from a town called Spanaway Washington. The typical “About me” stuff that is seen on Facebook walls and Twitter bios is usually all somewhat the same. First there is my insane dedication to being a fan of the Denver Broncos. Somewhere in the short description of me I will also have a quote from one Jeremy Clarkson of the UK’s Top Gear; the likes of which are mostly silly and would only be understood by the avid follower of the show. One of the last elements I normally include when writing about myself is my Mexican heritage. And yes, Mexican. I prefer that over “Latino” or “Hispanic” as debated with a high school AP Government teacher. But a question of politically correct race titles is a different story. Here is where it becomes difficult though, because using the phrase “Above all of that” seems wrong to me. I mean, my heritage means so much to me but I need to find a way to express just how much this last thing means to me. So I will do so in three very simple words. Music is life. This belief has been in full swing, affecting my every day, ever since I was in elementary school listening to Yellow Submarine on repeat. Just like how it all started with my love of music, it will forever be Rock that remains number one in my heart, but as the years have passed my music libraries, numerous mix CDs, iPods, phones, and of course ears, have been filled with different artists and a growing mix of genres. I named my blog Rock, Rave, Rev, to symbolize two parts Music and one part cars. I guess I caved in and had to include some car things! But overpowering it is the music. From Zeppelin to Zedd, David Gilmour to Deadmau5, David Bowie to Nirvana, and The Killers to The Kinks. My music choice is wide and open to even more expansion. Through concerts and the performance of live music I have recently discovered a whole different side of music. I believe that music is very three dimensional. Music is an artwork. It is an expression of emotions and it means something. But it is up to the person listening to decipher what they are hearing. The more I played music through different instruments and written music I have only understood this more. Music is my life and life is good.
