Wrap-Up Final Post
My favorite projects throughout the semester have to be both the Final Video Project as well as the Photoshop project. The first and last of all of our work throughout the semester. I used Photoshop in high school a lot working on my newspaper at school so It was cool to continue to use it as well as learn new skills in a program I find very interesting. The final video project was great because it allowed me to really show off the Music side of my blog with my own band being highlighted as well as some concert footage that I have accumulated which really means a lot to me.
In these projects I obviously learned more about the adobe programs which I may use In a career in communications as well as different ways to share the things I love. This class really did open my eyes to a different avenue of a degree in communication. If I must admit, I think Prof Beam is a really cool guy and hearing his story of how he was in the early stages of a tech revolution in the world of communication is really making me consider a education in Com Tech.
Lots of the time if I had a problem in one of my adobe suites I just googled the problem or how to do something. A simple youtube video showed me how to do what I wanted to accomplish pretty quickly. This is a really cool course and along with teaching me some cool stuff with adobe, it was also a good transition into a fully online course. Since com 210 is a hybrid course I felt more comfortable taking a music class next semester that is all online because I saw how well I worked without classroom instruction on a weekly basis.
Blog Logo Final
“Rock, Rave, Rev.” was chosen very carefully when I decided on the theme of my blog. Even the order has significance. I was raised on rock and roll. Yellow Submarine was my first love. Secondly, electronic music has taken over my earphones and has morphed into something very important to me. Lastly, my love of cars is something I wanted to share so badly that I could not pass up this opportunity to do so. On the other hand I believe that music is life. Therefore I did music and cars. Rock, Rave, Rev.
The doodles on the corners of my notes in class and while studying the week or so before this logo was due were not the usual guitar or bear but rather ideas for how I could visually connect Rock, Rave, and Rev. I always found myself going back to the letter R. Mainly because of my poor drawing skills that made a record and piston look so strange. But also I thought of other logos and decided that I wanted something simpler.
The R’s are not text, but rather creations using either the brush tool and different brushes or using the rectangle and pen tools. Originally I had each R a different color but thought that it would look better more uniform and consistent.
The first R is a brush that looks cut up or almost sloppy. When I drew the first R representing Rock I went for a cool and almost ripped feeling. The second R represents Rave. There was a font called “virtual DJ” that I liked but wanted to make the letter myself rather than simply use text. Squares and generated triangles make up the sides of the R. This gives the middle R an electronic or futuristic look that I think goes well with the idea of electronic music. Finally, the last R was something that I actually got just how I wanted on the first try with a unique brush. I wanted to go for a race track sort of look because the last R represents Rev, meaning my love of cars.
Just by experimenting with the different styles of strokes on the ellipse I made I found a shape that I liked and surrounded the R’s. The two different gradient patters on the ellipses gives the logo a sort of curved shape which was something I honestly came about simply by accident. A drop shadow effect is the last piece in my logo.
To update the final draft of the logo I brought out the Rs and made them a little bit larger as well as tweaked with the gradient. I had ideas to make a more bold shadow of the whole logo but ended up not being able to make what I saw in my head a reality. I am still satisfied with my final piece.

The logo is somewhat simple in my opinion but still gets across the idea of the 3 aspects of my blog while holding a center theme.
Automobili Photo Collage Final

Having the blog name “Rock, Rave, Rev.” Has me entitled to communicate a passion for three different aspects of my personal life. Being two-thirds music, Rock and Roll as well as Electronic music will surely be seen more as the blog continues but I wanted to make something that showed off the third piece. Rev. as in the Revving of an engine. That is what I wanted to focus on in this collage, my love of cars.
All of the pictures in this collage were taken by me through going out and keeping an eye on roads and parking lots throughout big cities. Some of my favorite car brands made the spotlight as a Porsche 911 Turbo S, a Jaguar XFR, and a Ferrari F40 are displayed.
The Porsche was spotted near my hometown. Being a very sporty car, even in the Porsche family, I was surprised to see it as I walked out of a restaurant. What I did was take an up close picture of the badge, as I did for all three of the cars, and a shot from the front and combined them to make an interesting representation of both company and car.
The Jaguar was especially difficult to crop in Photoshop. The XFR has a lot of chrome pieces which reflected the surrounding Spokane sidewalks and buildings. If you look closely you can see me in the reflection of the jag in the middle. I liked this feature and decided not to mess with it.
Finally the Ferrari was taken in a museum in Tacoma. The famous Ferrari Red color made cutting the background out of the picture somewhat easy. I love how the logo really pops to the black background.
My love of cars starts when my dad was about my age. His stories of his Nova SS fuel my understanding of the bond between people and their cars. After I discovered the BBC’s Top Gear a few years ago, my passion for cars really exploded as I started simply by remembering what every car was I saw on the road and then following what was new in the automobile industry. Now, whenever I go out I keep an eye on the roads hoping for the day I get to take a picture or two of an Aston Martin. The cars in my collage may not brand the logo of my favorite manufacturer, but I love them each and is my pleasure to share with others.
Cars are something that I hold near and dear to my heart. From brand new speeders like the 911 and the classics like the F40. I am excited to be using different platforms of media in the future while staring at something as pretty as a Jag.
